is neoliberalism the current hegemony?
Many would submit that Neoliberalism is the current hegemony, it has omnipresent influence in all political and economic policies and decisions and in the way the global order is set up - a free market and minimal state. I think that it is a big scam. There is something problematic in the way neoliberalism is believed to be the current hegemonic influence, especially as it is promoted in the developing world, where the state is quite-so weak (and almost consequently minimal... in its reach, even if it overstretches itself). The advanced capitalist nations, on the other hand, are far from what the neoliberalist ideal order describes. The state is centrally positioned in defining market actions, spaces, and changes. The state is never minimal. The state is very much integrated with the market, almost like a half-sibling. So all this fuss about neoliberalism as a current hegemony seems to be rather very carefully designed to endure the thinking of state vs. market and to further weaken the developing states' hold over the development path that they choose. With neoliberalist-influenced or rather imposed policies, the developing states actually surrender their power and authority to the advanced capitalist states who claim the same fate of minimalism.
